Missouri Art Education Association (MAEA) wants to showcase your original artwork in their next Show Me Art Coloring Book. In creating and selling this book, it is MAEA’s goal is to raise scholarship funds for a deserving high school senior who aspires to become a Missouri Art Educator. Therefore, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the coloring book will be used for the MAEA Future Visual Art Teacher Scholarship.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Create a line drawing to fit the theme CELEBRATE MISSOURI: Festivals & Celebrations
Showcase your favorite Missouri Festival or Celebration like craft/maker events, cultural festivals, fireworks displays, homecoming traditions, parades, birthdays, dances, etc.
Here are some prompts to help get your students brainstorming ideas:
What accomplishments or goals have you achieved or want to achieve in your life? Draw yourself achieving your accomplishment and celebrating.
What do you celebrate in your family year after year? Draw a moment of a birthday, anniversary, or holiday you celebrate with your family.
Does your school community have an annual Festival? Homecoming Parade? Draw a moment in time preparing for these festivals or during the parade.
Does your town celebrate with parades or cultural events each year? Draw your favorite performance, eating your favorite food, or a moment you remember at your town's event.
Did you know July 4, 2026 is the United States of America's Semiquincentennial Celebration of signing the Declaration of Independence? https://america250.org Research and reflect on our nation's history from 1776 to today and how Missouri played a major role in shaping the first 100 years of American History. Honor a contribution in American History of those individuals who were involved in shaping the expansion of the United States, particularly Missouri History. Illustrate a scene or portraits of historical figures in Missouri's history we celebrate today.`Be sure to keep your research notes for when you write your artist statement.
What do you think celebrations or festivals will look like in the future? What dream do you have that others might celebrate in the future? Expand your mind and create a drawing of people celebrating in the future.
The subject matter of your drawing should be your own interpretation and may include a famous person, historical site, etc. However, any copyrighted images such as licensed characters or sport logos will not be accepted for publication.
Avoid any lettering on your art and avoid filling in large black spaces. Instead create a drawing to show your interpretation for a coloring book page others would enjoy coloring
Quality Requirement: Image must be entirely black & white.
Must erase any extra marks. Convert final drawing into a high quality (minimum 300 ppi) jpg or png format for submission.
Fill the page by creating interesting shapes someone will color and avoid large black or blank areas.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Submit your entry online (https://www.maea.net/programs-and-events/Contest). Minors must have a legal parent or guardian submit for them or a parent signature release. Limit 10 entries per teacher. Winning entrants will be notified by email, or parent email if under 18. Their entries will be printed in the 6th MAEA ShowMe Art Coloring Book, available for purchase online.
DEADLINE: Entries must be submitted by October 24, 2025 11:59pm CST Entries received after the deadline may be considered for future coloring book editions.
Art Teachers: We suggest downloading and printing the entry form, have your students fill out the information , take home to obtain a parent signature if under 18, and then upload all artwork release consent forms to the form to the right.
