An Annual Tradition
October 11 & 12, 2013
Camp Bob White, Knob Noster State Park
Directions: The MAEA Fall Conference is located in Camp Bob White in Knob Noster state Park, (next to Whiteman Air Force Base). Knob Noster, MO, is on Highway 50 about 10 miles east of Warrensburg and 20 miles west of Sedalia. Take Highway 50 to 132/23, turn south to DD, then to the Camp Bob White sign. The easiest thing to do is look for the MAEA signs and follow them to the camp.
Due to insurance regulations only registered MAEA/NAEA members and staff are allowed in the campground or to attend conference activities. Children and infants are not permitted. In accordance with state law retail sales are not allowed on the State Park Campground.
Lodging: The fall conference includes lodging. The cabins (6) are group style with about 24 beds to a cabin. There is a central restroom/shower in each cabin. There is no heat or air conditioning. You will need to bring your own bedding and towels. It is rustic, but it is fun to stay at the camp. Sign up for a cabin when you arrive; there is plenty of space. For those who prefer there are motels in Warrensburg and Sedalia.
What to Bring: Pay attention to the weather. It is always a good idea to be prepared for rain or cold weather and bring clothing for any type of weather. It might be hot one day and cold the next. Also suggested: flashlight, handi-wipes, hand sanitizer, earplugs, lawn chair, and camera. Coolers are allowed. Art Kit: Sketchbook, scissors, glue, watercolors, pencils, erasers, markers, brushes or other materials for your personal use. Most workshops provide materials, however, extra materials may be listed on ArtBytes for specific workshops. Meals: Conference registration includes dinner on Friday evening and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. The menu varies and is always good. Lunch is not provided on Friday. You can bring your own beverages.
Friday Evening Activities: Drag 'n Brag is after dinner. Anyone can bring lesson plans and an example of the project to share. Canvas painting: the canvas is provided and some paint and brushes will be available (you may want to bring some paint and brushes); Canvases are auctioned off at the Spring Conference to help support the Members' show winner's trip to Arrowmont. Music: a band or DJ.
