The Missouri Art Education Association Nominating Committee invites YOU to submit your application to be a member of the 2016-2018 MAEA Council. 

If you have ever thought about becoming more involved with MAEA, now is the time! 

Take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the requirements of being on Council by looking at our Consent to Serve Form, Job Descriptions, and other MAEA official documents.

We have some exciting changes to the schedule for this year's conference, and therefore some BIG changes to the schedule for the art shows.

Here is the schedule, so that all are aware of the time crunch on entries.
This is necessary because the Awards will be given Friday at 5:30pm

Here we go:

Thursday April 9
Accepting art 7-9 pm
Friday April 10
accepting art 7:30-9:00am

Closed for judging

Exhibits open Friday 1:00-5:00 and 8:00-10:00

Saturday Exhibits open 8:00am-2:00pm
Please pick up art between 11:00 and 2:00

Thursday, April 9th

  • "City of Fountains" Reception
  • Bizarre Bazaar
  • Come and Go - Handcraft your Hat for the Gala!
  • Art on the Spot - Create a masterpiece using found objects and win big. $5 entry fee; Grand Prize: $100 Knob Registration.
  • Micrography - Learn how to use text in creating an image.
  • Curriculum Slam! - It's back...and you won't want to miss it!

Friday, April 10th

  • Keynote, Carol Hockett
  • VENDORS!!!
  • Breakout sessions from 1-4PM - KCAI, Mariott, and Nelson-Atkins
  • Awards Ceremony and Vendor Recognition - 5:30-6:15PM, Atkins Auditorium@ the Nelson
  • "Night at the Museum" Gala - 6:15-8:30PM, Kirkwood Hall@ the Nelson

          Dress for the Gala is Semi-Formal, Creativity Welcome! The theme is Red and White and we would LOVE to
          see your handmade hats with gloves and/or ties! There will be music, photo booths, snacks, a Silent
          Auction and cash bar...this event is NOT to be missed!

Saturday, April 11th

  • Breakfast with the Vendors
  • Breakout sessions from 9-11AM
  • Lunch @ The Nelson
  • Breakout sessions from 1:30-4PM

Planning the conference

Before I joined council I was always amazed by how well organized the conferences are. Well, that is because MAEA council meets through out the year to bring you the best experience possible. Tomorrow we will be meeting in Lee summit to finalize our Spring Conference, which by the way its in April at the Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City.

Next time you see a council member thank them for their hard work. You should also try to join the MAEA council. Get involved!


Night at the Museum

 Are you registered? 

"Night at the Museum"!

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art here we come! Visit to begin. Make your reservations for the Marriott Country Club Plaza by calling (816) 531-3000 and mention Missouri Art Education Association to get the group rate of $109.00 plus tax. Complementary self-parking.  We are trying to fill 290 rooms to meet our contract agreement.


  • KC Chiefs football team, Arrowhead stadium: Thursday evening beginning around 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm
  • Art Scavenger hunt through KCAI and the Nelson,
  • "Night at the Museum" Gala at the Nelson-Atkins which is a white and red attire theme plus top it with a hat
  • Spectacular awards ceremony in Atkins Auditorium followed by the "Night at the Museum" Gala in Kirkwood hall of the Nelson-Atkins.
  • Thomas Hart Benton Museum Friday and Saturday!
  • Lunch on Friday will be on your own so you can enjoy some of the Plaza restaurants or the Nelson-Atkin's Rozzelle Court Restaurant.
  • Lunch on Saturday will be catered by the art museum.
  • Activities should wrap up early on Saturday evening with our last workshop around 4:30.
  • If you are interested in staying another night, we would love to schedule a KC Art After Dark event on Saturday evening. Please register here in order to express your interest .
