Tax-free weekend has come to an end which means a new year of school is upon us! After a long summer I am reenergized and ready to get back to work. I hope you had time to relax, spend time with your families, and that you too are ready for this upcoming academic year.
I would like to spend a little time to introduce myself. My name is Lauren, I am a resident of Liberty, and I teach just north of the city at Lawson XIV School District. I am going into my third year of teaching, and this is my first year as a district rep for MAEA. I have enjoyed my journey from college to my professional career and look forward to teaching for several years to come! I truly love what I do and took this position to help out others in any way I possibly can.
As a new district representative for the Kansas City metropolitan area, I have three goals I would like to achieve during the 2014-2015 school year. My first goal is to get as many members joined in my Facebook group page for district 3. If you have any co-workers or colleagues in the area please inform them of this page! It will be a great way for all of us to share websites and other resources with each other. I would also like to take seasonal First Friday trips as a group to enjoy the local artwork and talk with local artists. It will be a great way to mingle with artists and perhaps have them come speak to your students! Lastly, I would like to schedule “Lesson Swaps” once a semester for all of us to get together and share our hard work!
The 2015 spring conference in is Kansas City! The conference committee (especially Stephanie Mennemeyer), and I, are working very hard to make this one spectacular in every way possible. I would like for us to try to recruit a few art teachers unfamiliar with MAEA to join this year and discover what a great conference MAEA delivers each spring while it is on our own turf!
